Whela Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Whela is a pain diary app made by Fweem BV ("we"). This policy explains what happens to the information you put into Whela.
The short version
- Whela has no account and no Whela server that receives your data.
- Your entries are stored on your device.
- We do not show ads or use tracking or advertising identifiers.
- Whela sends anonymous usage statistics (which screens are opened, never what you log) to Plausible Analytics.
- If you turn on optional sync or export features, your data goes only to services you choose and sign in to yourself. We never receive a copy.
What Whela stores
When you use Whela, it stores the entries you create (the pain level you pick, the date and time, any tags such as medications or triggers you select, and any notes you type) and your app settings (such as reminder time and which face set to use). This information is stored locally on your device.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand how Whela is used, the app sends anonymous usage statistics to Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service hosted in the EU. When you open a screen, Whela sends:
- the name of the screen (for example "log" or "settings"),
- the app version,
- your device's operating system and version, and the type of device (phone or tablet),
- the time of day on your device (the hour only).
Plausible uses your IP address only to work out an approximate location (country, region and city) and to count unique visitors for the day. It does not store your IP address, uses no cookies or device identifiers, and cannot recognise you from one day to the next. See Plausible's data policy.
These statistics never include your entries: no pain levels, tags, notes or dates.
Optional features that send data off your device
These features are off until you turn them on, and some are still in development:
- iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android) sync. If you enable sync, Whela saves a copy of your entries to a private app folder in your own iCloud or Google Drive account so you can use Whela on more than one device. The data is handled by Apple or Google under their privacy policies. We cannot access it.
- Notion export. If you connect your Notion account, Whela writes your entries into a database in your own Notion workspace. Signing in to Notion passes through a small Whela service that exchanges Notion's one-time sign-in code for an access token and immediately returns it to your device. That service does not store the code, the token, or any of your entries. After that, Whela talks to Notion directly from your device. The data in Notion is handled under Notion's privacy policy.
- Daylio import. If you import a Daylio export file, Whela reads it on your device. The file is not uploaded anywhere.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share your data.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not collect crash reports.
- We do not send your entries (pain levels, tags, notes) to Plausible or to any Whela server.
Deleting your Whela data
Whela (by Fweem BV) has no account and no server holding your entries, so you delete your data yourself, wherever it is stored:
- On your phone: uninstall Whela. This deletes all entries, tags and settings stored on the device.
- Google Drive sync (Android), if you turned it on: in the Google Drive app or drive.google.com, open Settings → Manage apps → Whela → Delete hidden app data.
- iCloud sync (iOS), if you turned it on: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Whela → Delete Data.
- Notion export, if you turned it on: delete the Whela database from your Notion workspace, and remove the Whela connection under Notion Settings → Connections.
What is kept: only the anonymous, aggregate usage statistics in Plausible (for example "120 visits to the log screen from the Netherlands on 1 October"). They contain no entries and no identifiers, cannot be linked to you, and are kept indefinitely. Nothing else is retained by us, because we never receive it.
